Droid Tower 2.0 Released

Thanks to everyone who has tried Droid Tower 1.0 and left feedback.  Even before I finished 1.0, I started thinking about building an app that would allow the game to be played entirely on the device.  I knew it would be challenging, but I had no idea how challenging.  Seemingly simple things like detecting the space a user touched became incredibly complex and tedious (I may post a blog on the technical solution for those interested, because I think it is pretty cool).  I also ran into several "opportunities" with some android code and had to tweak it, extend it, and in some cases, replace it.  So it's taken much longer that I had anticipated/hoped, but in the end, I learned a ton and couldn't be happier with the final product.  I hope you will enjoy playing it as much (or more) than I enjoyed making it.  Please leave me comments or send me email and let me know how I can make it even better.

  1. Great job on the game! The only real suggestion I have to make it better is to have a save option. I noticed if you're playing and get a phone call or go to check/send a text message. The game resets. Which gets really frustrating. Lol I'd like to see that issue resolved more than a online multiplayer option. Although I love the thought of playing online. :)

  2. I agree with Nick, I think a save function would be great. I've also noticed something that happens on my phone and I'm not sure if it's just my phone (Samsung Galaxy Showcase/Fascinate) or if it's something with the program itself. I'm not quite sure how to explain it, but the beep sound is delayed on the first action of each 'turn'. For example, if I press move and it is a non-eventful move, rather than immediately beeping, it will take some time, unless I hit the No/End key, then it will beep and then make the end turn sound. The same is true for the battle sequences. When it shows the number of warriors, there is no beep, but when the number of brigands is displayed, it does a quick double beep.

    1. Thanks for the feedback. I have noticed this happen intermittently as well. I believe it is just an artifact of the way the media player works (an app requests the player to play a sound and it plays it as soon as it is able)

  3. Having some trouble, love the game. It worked great on my HTC incredible 2. I have an HTC droid DNA and the game is very laggy and unresponsive.. I can't usually get past the intro music. When I try and move it doesn't respond. But the menu button and inventory come right up. I adore dark tower and would love to get some help on this. Thanks!

    1. Sorry to hear you are having trouble Amy. Could you please tell me what version of Android you are using *Settings -> About phone -> Android version", and I'll investigate.

    3. Amy, I've done some testing in both 4.1 and 4.2 and I'm not seeing any issues. It may be an issue unique to the hardware. I'll have to see if I can find someone who has one to test with. In the meantime you could try uninstalling and reinstalling the application, if you haven't already.

    4. Uninstall and reinstall was the first thing I tried... I hope you can figure out what's up!

  4. Screen calibration is way off on Nexus 7. (Android 4.2.2) Piece moves to a square about an inch to the right of where I actually touch.

Would be less frustrating of there were some kind of undo/confirm for moves. Basically unplayable.

I'm sad, because otherwise this looks just like I remember the original.

  5. I believe your issue may have been related to the one that was causing problems with the S4. Please try the newest update and let me know if you are still having problems.

  6. Great work here...I'm having the same gold sealing problem that others have been mentioning....is there a fix?

Thank for remaking this...it's awesome other than the gold theft.
